SIZING A SAW
Eye Catching Title |
When selecting a hand saw, it is necessary to consider two dimensions relating to saw size - blade length and teeth per inch. The blade length, which is commonly set at 26 inches, refers to the length of the cutting edge. As for the number of teeth per inch, this factor determines the smoothness of the cut. The more teeth, the smoother the cut is likely to be. In some cases saws are sold according to "points per inch," a designation which may be stamped on the part of the blade closest to the handle. There will always be one more point per inch than teeth per inch. If the homeowner wishes to elect a crosscut saw, he or she should look for six to eight teeth per inch. A rip saw has five to six teeth per inch. |
