LOOKING BEYOND MENOPAUSE

Eye Catching Title
For all the misplaced societal perceptions that surround menopause, this normal developmental phase in the life of a middle-aged woman should not be associated with illness. Considering the average lifespan of the American woman, menopause neither lasts very long (an average of two to five years) nor signals the beginning of aging. The woman who experiences menopause at the age of 50 generally can look forward to three more decades of life. While this change in life signals the end of her childbearing years, it also frees most women from the physical and emotional swings associated with the menstrual cycle. Indeed, many women emerge from menopause with a renewed sense of self-confidence. Any woman who has doubts and concerns about this stage in her life should discuss them with her gynecologist.

P.S. Menopause may be the end of a woman's reproductive years, but it does not mark the end of her sexuality.
