URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS
Eye Catching Title |
Urinary tract infections occur as a result of the growth of large numbers of bacteria in the urethra (the tube leading from the bladder to outside the body), or the kidneys. Women are more predisposed to urinary tract infections because their anatomy places the urethral opening close to the anus, a common source of bacteria. A woman's bladder is also only about an inch away from her urethra, while a man's is six inches away. Thus, bacteria that are introduced into the urethra have much less distance to travel before infecting the bladder. Consequently, infection of the urethra (urethritis) generally occurs along with a bladder infection (cystitis). |

| P.S. Although lower-tract infections (urethritis and cystitis) can be painful and annoying, they are usually easily treated with antibiotics. |
